Plain-language summary

FixBermuda is a free civic tool for reporting road issues in Bermuda. This page explains the rules for using the service, who owns the content and how we handle personal information under Bermuda's Personal Information Protection Act 2016 (PIPA). This page is maintained by the FixBermuda team to answer common questions; it is not legal advice.

1. Terms of Use

By using FixBermuda you agree to use it responsibly and lawfully. The service exists to help residents, commuters and visitors report road and infrastructure issues across Bermuda's nine parishes so they can be routed to the right people.

You agree not to:

  • Submit false, misleading, abusive or unlawful reports.
  • Upload media you do not have the right to share or that contains other people's private information without a lawful basis.
  • Attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the service.
  • Report while driving. Only submit when safely parked or off the road.

We may remove content or restrict access where these terms are breached. The service is provided free of charge and may change or pause at any time.

2. Your reports & content

You keep ownership of the photos, video, audio and text you submit. By submitting a report you grant FixBermuda a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display and share that content for the purpose of operating the service and forwarding issues to relevant authorities and partners (such as Public Works or parish contacts).

Please avoid capturing identifiable people, vehicle licence plates or private property details unless necessary to describe the issue.

4. Privacy & Bermuda PIPA

We handle personal information in line with Bermuda's Personal Information Protection Act 2016 (PIPA). "Personal information" means any information about an identified or identifiable individual.

What we collect. Report details (description, category, parish, road, severity), location coordinates you provide, any media you upload and — only if you choose to receive updates — your email address.

Why we use it (lawful purpose). To record and display road issues, route them to the appropriate authorities, keep you updated on a report you asked to follow and improve the service. We only use personal information for these purposes.

Sharing. We may share report information with government departments and parish or community partners so issues can be fixed. We do not sell personal information or use it for unrelated marketing.

Retention. We keep report data for as long as needed to resolve and track the issue and to maintain a public record of road conditions. Personal details such as an email address for updates are kept only while relevant and are removed or anonymised when no longer needed.

Security. We apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including access controls and uploaded-file validation, to protect personal information against loss or unauthorised use.

5. Your PIPA rights

Under PIPA you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you and request a copy.
  • Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Ask us to delete personal information where appropriate.
  • Object to or ask us to stop certain uses of your personal information.
  • Complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Bermuda (PrivCom).

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@fixbermuda.com. Because most reports can be submitted without an account, please include enough detail to help us locate your information.

6. Disclaimer of liability

FixBermuda content is provided for civic use only and on an "as is" basis. We do not guarantee that reports are complete, accurate or acted upon, and we are not liable for any decisions or actions taken based on information shown here. Submitting a report does not create any legal duty on any authority to respond.
